Police geared on SGBV fight

The Malawi Police Service (MPS) has reiterated its commitment to fight against Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV), a development that spurs women empowerment and development of the country. 

Speaking in Lilongwe during the launch of media training on 'SGBV Survivor Centred Reporting,' Commissioner of Police, Mr. Dennis Chipao who made the remarks on behalf of the Inspector General Dr. George Kainja, emphasised that the fight against SGBVs is a consented effort. 

Four arrested for vandalism and theft of ESCOM property in Balaka

The Malawi Police Service (MPS) has arrested four criminals for vandalising and stealing ESCOM property. The arrested criminals are connected to vandalism of an
ESCOM transformer and subsequent theft of its copper wire at Andiamo in Balaka District on February 25, 2022.

The suspects include Maxwell Nasekwa, 35, Patrick Nasekwa, 29, both from Ntiza Village, Traditional Authority Mabuka in Mulanje, and Innocent Christopher Sungani, 32, of Chikwengwe Village, Traditional Authority M'biza in Zomba.

One arrested over false news in Mulanje

Police in Mulanje on Thursday, 24 February 2022 arrested a 27 - year - old man, Shantel Saidi for allegedly fabricating false information about an organisation.

The reporter, Deborah Kang'oma who works at Friends of Mulanje Orphans (FOMO) told Police that from January this year, Saidi, disguising himself as Watipaso Songo, has been circulating information on Facebook alleging that the charitable organisation is corrupt. 

Witchdoctor jailed 5 years over K13. 8 m resurrection hoax

The Lilongwe First Grade Magistrate's Court has sentenced a witchdoctor to five years in prison after defrauding a woman of K13. 8 million in false claims that he would resurrect her dead husband.

The convict, Winstone Mvula, 60, was convicted Friday February 25 2022 on a charge of obtaining money by false pretences.

The court heard through State Prosecutor Sub Inspector Vincent Ntalawe that Mvula, on October 21 last year, approached a businesslady at her shop in Zamkutu along the Bypass road.

Woman jailed 8 years for forcing under age boys to have sex with her in Lilongwe

The Lilongwe Senior Resident Magistrate's Court, Tuesday February 15, 2022, convicted and sentenced a woman, Christina Masina, 24, to eight years imprisonment for sexual activities with minors, in June last year at Chigwirizano location in Lilongwe.

The court through Lilongwe Police Station prosecution officer, Inspector Richard Kandeya, heard that the accused person, Christina Masina, was a neighbor to the complainant, (name withheld) who happens to be the guardian to the two victims aged 4 and 16.

Woman jailed 11 years for having sexual activities with minor

The Phalombe First Grade Magistrate's Court has convicted and sentenced a 50 - year old woman, Linly Kabisa, for having sexual activities with an 11 year -old boy in the district.

During court proceedings state prosecutor Sergeant Gladys Billy narrated that on October 16, 2021, around 18:00 hours, the victim left his home and went to the woman's house to chat with her children.

When the mother of the victim saw that her son was not returning home, she decided to follow him.

Four nabbed for being found with Chamba

In Kasungu, four men have been arrested for allegedly being found in possession of Cannabis Sativa commonly known as 'Chamba'.

The Quadro were arrested by a joint team of police officers from National Police headquarters and Kasungu Police on the wee hours of Sunday, January 30, 2022, at Paramount Bar within Kasungu town.

Facts of the matter are that police were tipped by a well wishers that there was a certain Truck (Fuel Tanker) Registration ZA 3050/ZA3189 loaded with bags of Cannabis Sativa and was being driven by Reuben Musitafa Muotcha who was heading Lilongwe. 

Three nabbed for possessing hemp in Nkhata Bay

Police in Nkhata Bay District are keeping in custody, three people for being found in possession of 16 bags of Chamba being conveyed to Blantyre.

The suspects have been identified as Anderson Chikungu age 43 of Chikungu Village in Traditional Authority Chapananga in Chikhwawa, Mwayi Nahawa aged 18 of Namakoka Village in Traditional Authority Mwambo in Zomba Diistrict and Samson Mwase 45 of Mtepuka Village in Traditional Authority Mankhambira in Nkhata Bay District. They all work with Pallet Kings Company as; driver, labourer and watchman respectively.

Public notice on purported attacks by Street Kids in Lilongwe

Lilongwe Police would like to inform members of the public that it is aware of the presence of some street kids (ana amasikini) in the city, and the threats these kids are causing on unsuspecting persons during the day or night time. 

However, the station would like to make it clear that, going by the current situation and statistics, the extent of the problem perpetrated by these street kids is not as bad as it is being portrayed in most social media platforms.

End murder and mob justice now" - Commissioner CWR

The Commissioner of Police responsible for Central West Region (CWR), Mr Peter Chasweka, has urged the community in Mchinji to desist from murder and mob justice acts. 

He was speaking at Senior Chief Mlonyeni headquarters on Wednesday, January 26, 2022. He addressed a mammoth gathering enchanted by the crowd-pulling Blue Eagles Football Club which played a match against Mlonyeni select. 

Said Commissioner Chasweka: "Let us guard jealousy for our peace and co-existence. We will not relent in stopping mob justice even if it means arresting a whole village".
