SARPCCO Chief calls for regional unity against crime during Malawi visit

Inspector General for Tanzania Police Force who is also the incumbent chairperson for Southern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (SARPCCO), Mr. Camillus Wambura has emphasized the need for cooperation among sister police forces in the region in the fight against transnational organised crime. 

Wambura expressed the sentiments on Thursday, December 12, 2024 at Malawi Police Service's National Headquarters in Lilongwe at the onset of his three-day working visit to Malawi as SARPCCO chairperson.

Blue Eagles Football Club to share FDH Bank Cup prize money

The Inspector General of the Malawi Police Service, Mrs. Merlyne Yolamu (PPM), has directed that the entire MK35 million prize money from the FDH Bank Cup be distributed among the Blue Eagles players and the technical staff.

She made the announcement on Monday, 2nd September 2024, during a trophy presentation ceremony held at the National Police Headquarters in Lilongwe. The team presented the FDH Bank Cup to the Malawi Police Service (MPS) High Command during the event.

Two vehicles, a Toyota Fortuner and a Double Cabin Hilux stolen from South Africa are among property worth millions of Kwacha recovered in a three-day special intelligence-led operation conducted by the Malawi Police Service (MPS) from Wednesday, August 14, 2024.

Nsanje Police launch manhunt for unknown assailants

Police in Nsanje have launched a manhunt for unknown assailants who grievously harmed a 7-year-old girl and a 2-year-old boy by throwing them into a deep pit.

The incident occurred on August 12, 2024, around 8:00 a.m. at the Nyachilenda Railway Bridge, where the children were thrown into a 50-meter-deep pit.

According to investigations, the children's mother was at home when she received a report from a security guard working for CR20 Company, informing her that the children had been thrown into the pit by an unknown individual.

Limbe Leaf donates motorcycles to Kanengo Police

Kanengo Police in Lilongwe have expressed gratitude to Limbe Leaf Tobacco Company for donating four motorcycles, which authorities say will alleviate mobility challenges at the station.

During the handover ceremony on August 7, 2024, at Kanengo Police Station, Limbe Leaf's Managing Director Don McAlpin reaffirmed the company's commitment to supporting the police. He emphasized the importance of safety and security at the company's premises in Area 29, noting that the police presence has reduced incidents of copper cable theft.

Two ex-convicts sent back to jail for possessing illegal firearms

The Second Grade Magistrate Court has convicted and sentenced Mustapha Antonio Stanley, 34, to five years and three months for escaping from lawful custody and for being found in possession of a firearm. Bashir Ayami, 20, was sentenced to two years of imprisonment with hard labor for possessing a firearm.

The court heard from prosecutor Inspector Shadreck Wisiki that in March 2024, Stanley escaped from Mangochi Prison. Ayami was previously convicted of robbery.

3 arrested over illegal possession of firearms, ammunition in Lilongwe

Lilongwe Police Station has arrested three men for being found in possession of two pistols and 12 rounds of live ammunition without a license at Airwing, Mbavi location.

The suspects have been identified as Alex Chipiliro, 29, John Edward, 25, and Waiti Yamikani, 35.

Through intelligence collection, Lilongwe Police detectives found out that the first suspect, Alex Chipiliro, was keeping a rifle.

Cyclone Freddy survivors encouraged to rebuild lives

Police families who were affected by the Cyclone Freddy have been encouraged to rebuild and remain positive if they are to defeat the trauma they went through.

The call was made by the Deputy Inspector of Police for adminstration Mr. Happy Mkandawire on Tuesday April 18, 2023 when he presented donated items and cash to the 78 Police families who were affected by Cyclone Freddy earlier this year.
