Police in Nsanje have launched a manhunt for unknown assailants who grievously harmed a 7-year-old girl and a 2-year-old boy by throwing them into a deep pit.
The incident occurred on August 12, 2024, around 8:00 a.m. at the Nyachilenda Railway Bridge, where the children were thrown into a 50-meter-deep pit.
According to investigations, the children's mother was at home when she received a report from a security guard working for CR20 Company, informing her that the children had been thrown into the pit by an unknown individual.
The children were quickly rescued from the pit and found to have sustained serious head injuries. They have since been referred to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre for further treatment.
Police are continuing their investigation to trace the culprits, who will face charges of acts intended to cause grievous harm if apprehended
