The Inspector General of the Malawi Police Service, Mrs. Merlyne Yolamu (PPM), has directed that the entire MK35 million prize money from the FDH Bank Cup be distributed among the Blue Eagles players and the technical staff.
She made the announcement on Monday, 2nd September 2024, during a trophy presentation ceremony held at the National Police Headquarters in Lilongwe. The team presented the FDH Bank Cup to the Malawi Police Service (MPS) High Command during the event.
"The players' hard work, resilience, and enthusiasm are akin to that of an eagle, which is why the full prize money will be given to the players and officials," said Yolamu.
She also urged the team’s officials to ensure the prize money is used to benefit the players, rather than being diverted for administrative purposes.
Addressing the issue of player recruitment and promotion, Yolamu assured the team that her management would consider their requests and follow proper procedures, acknowledging the team's remarkable achievements.
The Blue Eagles won the championship by defeating FCB Nyasa Big Bullets 3-2 on post-match penalties in a thrilling final at Bingu Stadium in Lilongwe on September 1, 2024.
This victory not only earned the team respect and support from their peers and superiors but also solidified their status as a formidable force in Malawian football.
