New Victim Support Unit brings hope to Jali residents

The newly built Victim Support Unit (VSU) and awareness campaign on Professional Standards Services have brought excitement and relief to the residents of Jali in Zomba.

Commissioner of Police for the Eastern Region, Mrs. Chikondi Chingadza, expressed confidence that the facility will help curb gender-based violence. She made the remarks on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Jali Trading Centre during a sensitization event.

Lilongwe Water Board partners with Malawi Police Service to curb vandalism

The Lilongwe Water Board (LWB) has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Malawi Police Service (MPS) to enhance the protection of water infrastructure and combat vandalism. 

The signing ceremony took place on March 7, 2025, at the National Police Headquarters.

Through this partnership, LWB will have dedicated police officers stationed within its premises at a newly established police unit to provide security and assist in handling related cases.

Police arrest two suspected transformer vandals at Kanengo

Police have arrested two men, Stephano Nkhata Phiri (23) from Dowa and Harold Chiponde (43) from Lilongwe, on suspicion of planning to vandalize an ESCOM transformer at Matchaya Prison in Kasungu. 

Detectives from the National Police Headquarters acted swiftly after well-wishers reported suspicious activity at Kanengo Minibus Depot. 

The suspects, who were travelling in a lorry, were immediately taken into custody. 

A search of their bag revealed a cutter, panga knives, an empty sack, and mud-stained clothes—items commonly associated with transformer vandalism. 

SARPCCO Chief calls for regional unity against crime during Malawi visit

Inspector General for Tanzania Police Force who is also the incumbent chairperson for Southern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (SARPCCO), Mr. Camillus Wambura has emphasized the need for cooperation among sister police forces in the region in the fight against transnational organised crime. 

Wambura expressed the sentiments on Thursday, December 12, 2024 at Malawi Police Service's National Headquarters in Lilongwe at the onset of his three-day working visit to Malawi as SARPCCO chairperson.

Blue Eagles Football Club to share FDH Bank Cup prize money

The Inspector General of the Malawi Police Service, Mrs. Merlyne Yolamu (PPM), has directed that the entire MK35 million prize money from the FDH Bank Cup be distributed among the Blue Eagles players and the technical staff.

She made the announcement on Monday, 2nd September 2024, during a trophy presentation ceremony held at the National Police Headquarters in Lilongwe. The team presented the FDH Bank Cup to the Malawi Police Service (MPS) High Command during the event.
