Road accidents decrease by 16 percent during Christmas in 2022

The Malawi Police Service (MPS) wishes to inform the public that road accidents recorded during this year's Christmas period have decreased by 16 percent when compared to similar accidents recorded in 2021 during the same period.

 

However, an analysis of the data on these accidents shows that the total number of people killed from the accidents in 2020 has increased by 10 percent.

 

IGP lauds diversion initiative in decongesting cells

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mrs Merlyne Yolamu PPM has hailed the diversion initiative as a catalyst in decongesting police cells especially for children offenders. 

She was speaking on Monday, November 7, 2022 when she officially opened a two-day capacity building training on diversion and related issues on child protection at Central Region Training Centre (CRTC) in Lilongwe. 

Police detectives burst suspected hardcore criminals syndicate

Following a robbery case at Kasungu Standard Bank on the night of 27 October, 2022 where a security guard was murdered and cash amounting to K31, 476, 000.00 was stolen, the Malawi Police Service set up a special team of police detectives to investigate the robbery that revealed that it involved a gang of four suspected hardcore  criminals. 

Woman nabbed for concealing birth in Kasungu

Police in Kasungu have arrested an 18 year-old woman identified as Bertha Chipeta for concealing birth of her newly born child. The incident occurred on October 25, 2022 at Chambala Village in the district.

According to the suspect's landlord, his
tenant had been spotted with a bumpy tummy and on the said date he went to the toilet within the compound to relieve himself where he heard a cry of the baby in the pit-latrine.

The landlord alerted some members of the community who managed to rescue the newly born baby girl.

Two men kill each other over woman

Two men in Chintheche, Nkhata Bay District, have killed each other as they fought for a woman in Zomelanga Villlage in the district.

The deceased persons have been identified as Christopher Makawa aged 32 of Mangombo Village in Traditional Authority Mkanda in Mulanje District and Justin Tambala aged 49 of Zomelanga Village in Traditional Authority Fukamapiri in NKhata Bay District. 

According to reports, Justin Tambala  married one Marriam Mwanyali for some years.

Three years back, Makawa proposed  the woman to be his better half but the woman rejected him.
