The Malawi Police Service (MPS) has noted with deep regret an increase in spates of violence in the country. It is unfortunate that some members of the public have resorted to mob justice as a means of venting their anger, resolving grievances or dealing with persons suspected to have committed crimes. The service would like to appeal to all members of the public to desist from such practice, as it is against the law. Mob justice also puts lives of innocent people at risk.
In the same vein, the Malawi Police Service appeals to all members of the public and relevant stakeholders such as government departments, civil society organizations, community based organizations, political leaders, religious leaders, chiefs and block leaders to join hands with the police to ensure that such acts of violence are brought to an end and sensitize masses on the dangers of mob justice.
Members of the public are urged to immediately stop inciting or participating in any acts of violence including mob justice. Any person engaging in acts of violence shall be dealt with in accordance with the law.
The Malawi Police Service remains committed to ensuring public safety of all persons in Malawi and will respond to all issues of concern from members of the public with due diligence. Let us all join hands in creating a safe and secure Malawi for all.
