Police nab five over robberies in Lilongwe

Lingadzi Police detectives have arrested a gang of five criminals connected to a spate of robberies in Area 47, Area 14 Junction and a robbery that happened at Tafika Lodge along BNS drive in the month of April 2022.

Police received complaints from some Lilongwe residents that there are unknown criminals who have been attacking people in their homes and passers by within the City robbing them of various valuable items.

Limbe Police arrests 70 suspects for various offences

Following recent reports of robbery, theft and breakings in some townships within Blantyre, police officers on April 29, 2022 conducted an intelligence driven operation operation and 70 suspects were arrested in the process at Bvumbwe and Manje townships.

This is an on going operation intending to sanitize areas within Limbe Police Station's jurisdiction, making it free from criminal activities.

Limbe Police is urging citizens of good will to continue giving them information concerning those behind the criminal acts.

Man in Dwangwa jailed 12 years for possessing counterfeit currency

The First Grade Magistrate's Court sitting at Dwangwa in Nkhotakota District on Friday, April 22, 2022 sentenced Yesaya Quoto, 24, to 12 years imprisonment with hard labour after he was found guilty of possessing K575,000 counterfeit currency of K5,000 notes at Dwangwa trading centre.

The court heard through police state prosecutor, Sub Inspector Thoko Juziwel that Quoto was found with the said counterfeit currency on March 28, 2022 when he was making mobile money transaction through TNM Mpamba to a certain female mobile money agent at the trading centre.

Police arrest three, recover assorted electronics in CZ

Police in Chiradzulu have arrested three people in connection to spate of breaking and theft offences that occurred in the district and recovered assorted electronic  items in the process.

This follows extensive investigations and intelligence gathering by the district's Criminal Investigations Department.

On Friday, April 6 2022, police arrested the trio and recovered the  following items whose value is yet to be advised: 32 inch Logic plasma screen, MECER monitor, Dell computer box and keyboard, power cables, three laptops: Dell, HP and Toshiba.

29 newly qualified Police detectives inducted

The Commissioner of Police responsible for Human Resource Management and Development (HRMD) Mr Dennis Chipao, has urged the newly inducted Police detectives to put into practice the knowledge and skills that they have acquired throughout the eight-week investigative  training course. 

Commissioner Chipao was speaking as the guest of honour at Central Region Training Centre (CRTC) in Lilongwe on Friday, April 8, 2022 at the official closing ceremony of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) intake course attended by 29 officers, comprising 19 males and 10 females. 

Man nabbed over ESCOM stolen equipment

Police in Blantyre have arrested a Lunzu resident identified as John Nyalama, 43 for being found in possesion of Malawi Electricty Supply Commission (ESCOM) equipment suspected to have been stolen. 

He was arrested on Friday April 8, 2022 in a joint operation conducted by Police and ESCOM. During the operation, equipment such as bolts, nuts and insulator hooks weighing 5 tones valued at around K30 million were recovered at the suspect's warehouse in Lunzu. The operation was intelligence driven after an outcry of vandalism of ESCOM equipment. 

Kalinyeke tollgate fraud case commences in Court

The Senior Resident Magistrate (SRM) Court in Lilongwe on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 has commenced hearing of a  case involving four Kalinyeke Toll gate employees who are accused of fraud.

The four suspects are charged on two counts of fraud and false accounting, and theft by public servants. About MK9 million is alleged to have been swindled by the suspects between the months of February and March, 2022.

Malawians urged to take part in protecting people with  albinism

The Malawi Police Service (MPS) has appealed to Malawians to also take part in protecting people with albinism.

The call was made on March 9, 2022 by the Deputy lnspector General of Police responsible for Administration, Mrs Merlyn Yolamu, at Liwonde Community ground in Machinga District.

Speaking to the gathering, the Deputy Inspector General emphasised that  Malawians have a duty to ensure that people with albinism in their areas of jurisdiction are living peacefully.

Niece defiler caged 21 years

The Lilongwe Chief Resident Magistrate's Court has sentenced a 43-year old man to 21 years in prison for defiling his 12 year old niece.

The convict, Emmanuel Amos Chimombo, was jailed on Wednesday before Chief Resident Magistrate Patrick Chirwa.

The court heard through State Prosecutor Sub Inspector Damiano Nyasulu that the convict committed the offence on the night of 4 May 2021 in his house at Area 36.

At the time, the court heard, Chimombo's wife was away in Blantyre when Chimombo took advantage and sneaked into his niece's bedroom.
