MPS receives 52 motorcycles from UNFPA

The Malawi Police Service has today, August 31, 2022 received 52 motorcycles which are part of a donation of 152 motorbikes that United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), under the Spotlight Initiative, has given to the Malawi government.

The handover ceremony took place at National Police Headquarters in Lilongwe and was presided over by Minister of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare, Honourable Patricia Kaliati.

FDH Bank commissionaires arrested for stealing customer's K340,000

Police in Chiradzulu have arrested two FDH Bank commissionaires on suspicion that they stole a customer's K340,000 cash at the bank's Auto Teller Machine (ATM) in the district.

The suspects, who work at Chiradzulu FDH Bank branch, have been identified as William Mitiyali, 33, of Nansanya Village, Traditional Authority Nchiramwera in Thyolo and Alfred Mkwanda, 30, of Mpira Village, Traditional Authority Bwananyambi in Mangochi.

Two earn six years each for possessing Cannabis Sativa

The Chief Resident Magistrate's Court in Lilongwe has jailed two men, Lorman Khola and George Mkwinda, after being found guilty to a charge of found in possession of Cannabis Sativa (Indian Hemp) contrary to Section 19(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act as read with Regulation 4(a) of the same Act. 

The duo was on April 13, 2022 caught carrying 57 bags of the illicit drug weighing 1,221 kilograms without a licence or permit in a Hino truck registration number NE 5012 at Dwangwa Trading Centre and they pleaded guilty before Acting Chief Resident Magistrate Madalitso Chimwaza. 

IG challenges officers on Peacekeeping Mission for professionalism, cooperation

The Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Kainja, PPM, has challenged officers on Peacekeeping Mission in South Sudan to exercise discipline and professionalism throughout their operations. 

Dr. Kainja made the remarks Tuesday, May 24 2022, hours before the men and women in uniform depart the country for South Sudan. 

He further asked the officers to display ethical standards even during off duties, adding that they should remain prayerful and be God fearing. 

14 Ethiopians jailed five months for illegal entry in Karonga

The Karonga First Grade Magistrate's Court has on May 23,2022 convicted and sentenced Mesfin Alemu, 20 and thirteen other Ethiopians to serve a five-month jail term for entering Malawi without travel documents contravening Section 21 (1) as read with Section 37 (d) of the Immigration Act.

State Prosecutor,Sergeant Meston Zimba told the court that Police in Karonga district arrested the Fourteen Ethiopian Nationals in Tenenthe hills within Karonga after suspecting them to have entered Malawi illegally on May 20, 2022.

2 nabbed for duping 300 youths.

Police in Kawale, Lilongwe are keeping in custody Rose Mbiri, 44 and Zakeyo Sambo, 39 for duping 300 youths alleging that, they will offer them jobs.

The two posed as Secretary and Human Resources Manager (HRM) respectively for a bogus company called "First Plan Investment Promotion Agency".

It is on record that the said company placed an advert in a certain newspaper on May 1, 2022 about a vacancy on data collectors and the same was advertised in different media platforms.

Women in uniform shine in Basadi operation

On Friday May 20, 2022, female police officers from all 41 policing stations across the country marched off the ground on a high note after an intensive three-day operation Basadi.

"Basadi" which literally means 'women' in Sotho and Tswana languages is an operation by female police officers across countries in the SADC region and it focuses on combating priority crimes particularly against women and children, such as defilement, rape, assault, human trafficking, domestic violence and child labour among others.

Police nab five over robberies in Lilongwe

Lingadzi Police detectives have arrested a gang of five criminals connected to a spate of robberies in Area 47, Area 14 Junction and a robbery that happened at Tafika Lodge along BNS drive in the month of April 2022.

Police received complaints from some Lilongwe residents that there are unknown criminals who have been attacking people in their homes and passers by within the City robbing them of various valuable items.

Limbe Police arrests 70 suspects for various offences

Following recent reports of robbery, theft and breakings in some townships within Blantyre, police officers on April 29, 2022 conducted an intelligence driven operation operation and 70 suspects were arrested in the process at Bvumbwe and Manje townships.

This is an on going operation intending to sanitize areas within Limbe Police Station's jurisdiction, making it free from criminal activities.

Limbe Police is urging citizens of good will to continue giving them information concerning those behind the criminal acts.
