Police clears M1-road blockage by Kabaza motorcycle operators at Nsipe, Ntcheu

Police in Ntcheu have moved swiftly to clear the M1-road at Nsipe Trading Centre which was blocked with burning tyres and tree logs by some angry Kabaza operators. 

Tension arose after Ntcheu District Council officials allegedly confiscated unregistered motorbikes from some Kabaza motorcycle operators in the area, and the latter decided to block the M1-road in retaliation. 

However, Police in Ntcheu promptly quelled the volatile situation by engaging the protesters to clear the road for smooth passage of motorists and all road users. 

Nigerian arrested for being found in possession of dangerous drugs in Lilongwe

Lilongwe Police Station has arrested a 22-year-old Nigerian, identified as Chigozie Framulyne Ifeamy Chukwu, for being found in possession of dangerous drugs suspected to be cocaine and loose cannabis sativa.

The suspect was found with 7 blisters of the suspected drug at City Mall campus at around 12:30 hours.

When a tip-off reached officers manning City Mall Police Unit, the same was relayed to Lilongwe Police Station's drug detectives who made a follow-up that led to the arrest of Chigozie Chukwu and seizure of the illicit drug.

Confirmation of arrest of Hon. Joseph Mwanamveka, MP, Dr. Dalitso Kabambe and Hon. Dr. Ben phiri, MP

The Malawi Police Service confirms the arrest of Honourable Joseph Mwanamveka, MP and Dr. Dalitso Kabambe on suspicion that they committed an offence of Abuse of office contrary to section 95 (1) and procured the commission of an offence of Fraudulent false accounting contrary to section 335 (A) of the Penal Code.

Women in uniform shine in Basadi operation

On 8 December, 2021, female law enforcers from all 41 Policing stations across the country marched off the ground on a high note after an intensive three-day operation Basadi.

During the three day operation which fell in the midst of 16 days of activism, Malawian women in uniform led by it's Chairperson, Assistant Commissioner of Police Jessie Nyirongo who is also the South West Region Anti-Motor Vehicle ln-charge arrested perpetrators of sexual and various offences, conducted sensitization awareness, sweeping exercises and roadblocks.

Five drown in Shire River after canoe capsizes

Five people are feared dead after a canoe they they were sailing on Shire River in Chikwawa District capsized.

The accident occurred on 2 November, 2021 at Jey (Dzilozo) dock.

People boarded the canoe that was operated by a 12 year old boy and at a distance the operating stick slipped off from his hand and that made him to jump into the water to get it; this prompted other people also to come out from the boat and later it capsized.

Meanwhile two bodies have been found and retrived from the river while the other three went on missing.
