MPS embraces Retired Police Officers Association (REPOA)

The Malawi Police Service (MPS) has committed to cooperate with the newly launched Retired Police Officers Association (REPOA) which seeks to advance welfare of retired police officers.

Representing the Inspector General of Police during the official launch of the association at National Police Headquarters in Lilongwe, Mrs. Barbra Tsiga, Commissioner of Police said MPS is ready to rally behind the group as it serves a benchmark for discipline, togetherness and retirement preparedness.

Homeland Security Minister cautions officers against corruption, misconduct

The Minister of Homeland Security, Hon. Jean Sendeza, MP, has cautioned police officers to refrain from corrupt practices perpetrated in line of their duties, saying the malpractice erodes public confidence.

The Minister made the remarks on the sidelines of her familiarization tour at National Police Headquarters in Lilongwe on Friday, October 7, 2022.

IGP uplifts SARPCCO team's morale

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mrs Merlyne Yolamu (PPM), has lifted the morale for the Southern Africa Regional Police Chiefs Cooperation (SARPCCO) games travelling squad by rallying them to compete for medals in Tanzania.

She was addressing a 150-member squad of Police officers on Monday, August 29, 2022 at National Police Headquarters parade ground in Lilongwe. The team is departing for Dar Es Salaam on August 30 through Songwe border in Karonga.

Ndirande Police recovers 8 motor vehicles, suspect arrested

Police in Ndirande, Blantyre have recovered 8 motor vehicles and arrested Vincent Banda,25, who is suspected to have stolen the motor vehicles in a collateral syndicate.

The suspect in the month of April hired two vehicles belonging to Tinkhani Benjamin aged 34 on self drive.

In the first two weeks, he honoured the payment and later could not be traced prompting Tinkhani to report the matter to Ndirande Police Station.

MPS applauds WITA, AGA-Africa for law enforcement equipment

The Malawi Police Service (MPS) has applauded the Wildlife Investigators Training Alliance (WITA) and Attorney General Alliance-Africa (AGA-Africa) for the timely donation of law enforcement equipment to the Service which will enhance the fight against transnational crimes.

IG's wife applauds Lunzu women welfare

On February 11, 2022 wife to the Inspector General of Malawi Police Service, Mai Jacqueline Kainja visited Lunzu Police Unit and appreciated the cordial relationship among women welfare members at the police unit 

During her speech, Mai IG encouraged the grouping to continue the spirit of working together to uplift further the services of the grouping. 

She said "love must be the centre of all our deeds. Prayer among women is key". 

Mai IG, took time to hear some views and requests from the women to deliver directly to the Inspector General.

Malawi Police celebrates 100th Anniversary

Malawi Police Service on November 30 2021 commemorated its 100th Anniversary.

The event was presided over by His Excellency the State President Dr Lazarus Chakwera and it was held at the National Police Headquarters in Area 30, Lilongwe.

The President said there is a need to equip the police with adequate resources to ensure effective and efficient policing. He also said it is the responsibility of every Malawian to help the police rebuild its image.

This department is responsible for investigating serious cases. Officers in this department put on civilian clothes to mingle well with the public as they gather intelligence, track leads to suspects and arrest criminals. Sections within the CID include: Interpol, Homicide Unit, Drug Unit, Anti-Motor Vehicle Theft Unit, Dog Section, Fingerprint Section, Digital Forensic Unit, Crime Analysis Unit, Anti-Organized Crime Unit, Fiscal and Fraud Section, Wildlife and Environmental Investigation Crime Unit, Firearms and Ballistic Unit and Photography.
