The patron for Blue Eagles Football Club, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr George Kainja PPM, has made a cameo appearance at Nankhaka training ground on Saturday, May 7, 2022 to ignite the team's fortune.
"Your performance up to this stage in the elite TNM Super League has prompted me to touch base and boost your morale" explained Dr Kainja.
At exactly 10:15 am, he alighted from his official vehicle MP 1, accompanied by the Service Administration Officer (SAO) Mr Kelvin Mulezo and the Director of Finance (DOF) Mr Yacks Bonongwe, both of them Deputy Commissioners of Police.
There were roughly 30 players, 15 officials and a handful of supporters to welcome the Police chief at Nankhaka stadium.
Said the IGP: "I promise you wonders as long as you continue performing exceptionally well on the football pitch. If you manage to grab the Super League title this season, expect reciprocal favourable decisions from my table".
He advised the Executive in ensuring that the players have a fallback plan for life after football, and pledged total support in relation to recruitment and promotion of the players based on performance.
In his welcoming remarks, Superintendent Alexander Ngwala, the Blue Eagles F.C. Chairman hailed the IGP for such a humble gesture.
"I do not remember the last time that the Inspector General came to Nankhaka ground to inspire the players during training. We are deeply honoured and appreciate your support Sir", said Ngwala.
The Chairman's sentiments were earlier echoed by Superintendent Solomon Mchawi, the Vice General Secretary who outlined all the activities and targets for the team this season.
Counsel Mchawi dwelled on the team's successes, challenges and future plans.
Speaking on behalf of the players, Shumacher Kuwali the captain of the team, emphasized on the welfare of the players and requested a hike on game bonuses. He also pledged to bring home the elusive Super League title to Nankhaka during the IGP Dr Kainja's tenure of office.
However, the IGP instructed the Chairman to give an assessment of all the challenges and requests.
At the end of his tour, the IGP through the DOF provided an equivalent of two game bonuses, that is MK50.000 to each member of the squad.
