Public notice on purported attacks by Street Kids in Lilongwe

Lilongwe Police would like to inform members of the public that it is aware of the presence of some street kids (ana amasikini) in the city, and the threats these kids are causing on unsuspecting persons during the day or night time. 

However, the station would like to make it clear that, going by the current situation and statistics, the extent of the problem perpetrated by these street kids is not as bad as it is being portrayed in most social media platforms.

End murder and mob justice now" - Commissioner CWR

The Commissioner of Police responsible for Central West Region (CWR), Mr Peter Chasweka, has urged the community in Mchinji to desist from murder and mob justice acts. 

He was speaking at Senior Chief Mlonyeni headquarters on Wednesday, January 26, 2022. He addressed a mammoth gathering enchanted by the crowd-pulling Blue Eagles Football Club which played a match against Mlonyeni select. 

Said Commissioner Chasweka: "Let us guard jealousy for our peace and co-existence. We will not relent in stopping mob justice even if it means arresting a whole village".

Mob kills three over witchcraft, police launch investigations

Police in Nkhata Bay District have instituted investigations to arrest suspects who killed three elderly people (a male and two females) in the district, over witchcraft allegations. 

The deceased persons have been identified as Mbiri Kamphapa Banda who was Village Headman Kamphapa, Fainess Simwaka of Munguwo Village and Lasuti Silimbweru of Mbale Village all from Traditional Authority Timbiri in Nkhata Bay District. 

Witchdoctor found with case to answer over K13. 8 million scam

The Lilongwe First Grade Magistrate's Court has found witchdoctor Wingstone Mvula with a case to answer after he coaxed a widow into giving him cash amounting to K13, 822, 000.00, claiming he would resurrect her late husband.

The accused has since been granted bail, pending his defense on 21 January 2022.

But, prior to the bail on Friday-- 14 January 2022--Magistrate Robert Botha said the evidence given by State Prosecutor Sub Inspector Vincent Ntalawe, proved elements that Mvula had obtained money, by false pretenses, from the victim (name withheld). 

Man jailed 6 years for indecent assault in CZ

The Chiradzulu Magistrate's Court has sentenced a 25-year-old man, Ganizani Gulula Mwikho, to 6 years imprisonment with hard labour (IHL) for indecent assault contrary to section 137(1) of the Penal code.

During court proceedings, Namadzi Police Post Prosector Sergeant Anderson Dondwe told the court that Mwikho committed the offence on December 29, 2021 at Balakasi village in the area of Traditional Authority Ntchema in the district.

20 fake passengers arrested at Lilongwe Bus Depot

Police in Lilongwe have arrested 20 people for allegedly posing as passengers to hook bonafide passengers into one of the buses at Lilongwe Bus Depot. 

The fake passengers, popularly known as ojiya or athaiming'i were arrested on Friday, January 14 2022 during a special police operation. 

The suspects, who include four women, are aged between 19 and 45.

Their arrest follows numerous complaints from prospective passengers that they would wait for hours on end on the buses despite the buses passing off as full.

Police unmasks hit and run driver, reaps 2 years IHL

The Senior Resident Magistrate's (SRM) court in Mchinji has on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 slapped a hit and run driver, Chikumbutso Kathira, 32, to two years imprisonment with hard labour (IHL), without an option of a fine. 

Kathira did not stop after causing a fatal road accident on December 28, 2021 which claimed lives of three people on the spot. However, Traffic Police in Mchinji launched a spirited manhunt and unmasked (exposed) his identity barely a few days later, and arrested him.

Women in uniform shine in Basadi operation

On 8 December, 2021, female law enforcers from all 41 Policing stations across the country marched off the ground on a high note after an intensive three-day operation Basadi.

During the three day operation which fell in the midst of 16 days of activism, Malawian women in uniform led by it's Chairperson, Assistant Commissioner of Police Jessie Nyirongo who is also the South West Region Anti-Motor Vehicle ln-charge arrested perpetrators of sexual and various offences, conducted sensitization awareness, sweeping exercises and roadblocks.

Illovo eases transport challenges for Chikwawa police station

Illovo Sugar Company has today donated to Malawi Police Service three vehicles to ease mobility challenges in the lowershire district of Chikwawa.

The vehicles include two brand new Tata Pickups and one Toyota Land Cruiser pick up.

Illovo has also handed over the refurbished Ngabu Police Post offices.
