Kanengo Police in Lilongwe have expressed gratitude to Limbe Leaf Tobacco Company for donating four motorcycles, which authorities say will alleviate mobility challenges at the station.
During the handover ceremony on August 7, 2024, at Kanengo Police Station, Limbe Leaf's Managing Director Don McAlpin reaffirmed the company's commitment to supporting the police. He emphasized the importance of safety and security at the company's premises in Area 29, noting that the police presence has reduced incidents of copper cable theft.
"We used to register theft of copper cables at the factory, but since your intervention, the situation has normalized. We are grateful for your support and promise to return next year with another donation," McAlpin said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Mrs. Mercy Msonkho, Officer In-Charge at Kanengo, received the donation. She highlighted the strengthened relationship between the police and Limbe Leaf, noting that the motorcycles will significantly improve response times in the station's extensive policing area, including hard-to-reach locations.
"The motorcycles will ease mobility challenges, allowing us to respond to calls more swiftly," Msonkho stated.
Catherine Kapalo, representing the Station Executive Committee (SEC) and Vice Chairperson for the Community Policing's National Executive Committee (NEC), praised Limbe Leaf as a reliable partner. She noted that the motorcycles are crucial for enhancing community safety.
This donation follows a recent contribution of computer sets by Limbe Leaf to aid the police in processing and storing information efficiently.
