The Minister of Health Honorable Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda, MP, has expressed satisfaction with the progress towards the construction of a laboratory at Zomba Police College Hospital.
The Minister made the remarks on January 24,2024, when she inspected the infectious laboratory building at Zomba Police College Hospital.
She said government is committed to ensuring that the hospital is providing quality health services to the police officers and the surrounding community.
She said the facility will help doctors to arrive at a proper diagnosis and subsequent proper treatment.
The Minister then assured men and women in uniform that the facility will be handed over to Zomba Police College Hospital in March this year.
Speaking at the same function, Deputy Inspector General of Police responsible for Administration Mr Happy Mkandawire thanked the Minister for the gesture.
Mkandawire said once the laboratory is completed, the congestion will be reduced at the hospital as people will be assisted in time.
He added that unnecessary referrals to Zomba Central Hospital and other hospitals will be reduced, as the facility will be able to handle complex cases.
The Deputy Inspector General was quick to request the Minister to assist the hospital with an ambulance as the current one is more than 20years old.
The Infectious laboratory is being constructed with funding from the Global Fund through the Ministry of Health.
