WOMEN’S WORLD DAY OF PRAYER: TOOL IN COMBATING GENDER BASED VIOLENCE

April 4, 2025, will go down in history as female cops and officers’ wives from the National Police Headquarters in Lilongwe celebrated the Women's World Day of Prayer as a tool to end Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

Speaking at the event, Commissioner of Police Violet Magwaya who represented the Inspector General of Police, Merlyne Yolamu, emphasized the need for women to unite through prayer in order to end GBV cases in the country.

"It’s very important for women to come together and pray because when we come together, we share a lot of real-life stories. This helps us to have confidence and not to look down upon ourselves, but to believe in our worth, potential and act upon ending GBV," she said.

On her turn, Women’s World Day of Prayer Coordinator for Central Region Tracy Massi emphasized the need for women to participate in such events as it brings unity and active participation on issues to do with GBV.

Women’s World Day of Prayer is held annually on the first Friday of March, and this year it was celebrated on 7th March under the theme: "I Made You Wonderful" based on Psalms 139:14.
